ENGLISH TIPS
Shakespeare Paper SAT Tips
Make sure you answer the question that is asked:
- Do not just write down everything you can remember
- Relate your answer clearly to the question (Point, Evidence, Explanation)
Use both scenes:
- Refer to both bits equally
- Describe what is the same and what is different
Remember it is a play:
- You might be asked a question about performance
- It was designed to keep a live audience entertained
Shakespeare had his own viewpoint and wanted to make particular points
Spelling
Remembering how to spell accommodation, - Christopher Cricket and Mickey Mouse share accommodation (there are two ‘cc’s and two ‘mm’s). Remembering how to spell necessary - it is necessary for a shirt to have ONE collar and TWO sleeves (one ‘c’ and two ’ss’)
Sentences
Vary them, don’t make them all the same
do not link them with ‘and’ or ‘but’
vary the punctuation - use commas, question marks, exclamation marks and full stops
Paragraphs
use them
always have an opening and an ending paragraph
link the paragraphs together (however…secondly…also…another point…it is better to write less and take more care over details

Remember:
- 3 is a factor of 18
- 18 is a multiple of 3
- Square numbers: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, 49, …
- Prime numbers: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17,… only have two factors (1 and itself)
- The area of a triangle is (base x height) divided by 2
- The circumference of a circle is C = 2 x π x r
- The area of a circle is A = π x r². Use the π button on your calculator or remember that it is roughly 3.142 (count the letters in: now I know it).
- To find percentages, try using 10%, 5%, 1% and 2%.
- The mode is the most common value (mode sounds like most).
- When the results are arranged in order, the middle value is the med ian.
- To find the m+e+a+n add all the values and divide by how many there are.
- The largest value take away the smallest is called the range (LARGE – small).
- The probability of an event that is certain to happen is 1.
- The probability of an impossible event is 0.
- A probability should always be written as a fraction.
