Bar Mock Trials at Birmingham Crown Courts
10/12/2008On the 29th of November, a group of Sixth Formers woke up bright and early (as early as 6:00am for some!) to get down to the train station to begin their journey to the Birmingham Bar Mock Trial Competition held in Birmingham Crown Courts.
Apart from Cody always asking for the food trolley, the train journey went smoothly and we arrived in a bustling Birmingham right on time.
The Bar Mock Trial turned out to be very popular with a lot of schools from all around showing up. Teams were made up of two prosecution barristers, two defence barristers, two defence witnesses and two prosecution witnesses as well as an usher/court clerk.
William Brookes’ team began the day as defence for the Jackie Jones trial against Rugby High School, and then on to defend Sam Milar in the second round. For the last round William Brookes were the prosecution team for Jackie Jones where the verdict was guilty – success!
Even though William Brookes did not make it into the finals, for many of the group the competition was a fantastic new experience (since it was William Brookes’ first year at the competition), particularly useful for prospective lawyers and the majority of the group would certainly do it again.
